Acupuncture
This ancient healing art consists of inserting tiny needles into appropriate places on your body to clear away obstructions in the invisible meridians that distribute energy throughout your body. Removal of these obstructions can improve the flow of energy throughout your body and alleviate pain.

Acupressure:
IGM© Therapeutic Acupressure promotes deep relaxation and overall well being.  It is a sequence and series of 50 specific holds that work synergistically to open and balance energy pathways in the body to optimize healing and maintain wellness.  This method balances all the meridians in the body and is a relaxing, refreshing treatment. In addition, it can help relieve stress, headaches, and other illnesses.  It was developed by Isabel Gatto RN, who graduated from the Ohashi Institute and was a ten year student of Jin Shin. Over 25 years she developed her own style combining other modalities such as Reiki, Polarity, Therapeutic Touch, Reflexology, light and music therapy, taking the best from many to achieve maximum results. We have trained with Isabel Gatto and are certified practitioners.

A treatment in which an electrical current, below the level of sensation, is delivered to specific areas of the body.

The current targets specific tissues and provides an electric charge that enables the cells to return to normal bioelectric function.

Used for pain management, wound healing, chronic or acute inflammatory conditions.

Done by therapist or doctor wearing graphite gloves, which conduct the current, making it a kind of massage with an electric charge.

Every tissue of your body vibrates at a different frequency.  When we match the specific frequency of a tissue with the output of the machine, we get a "resonance" which we can recognize by a feeling of heat.  Patients of ten experience relief of pain after the treatment.  FSM can help acute or chronic neck or back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, lymphedema, poor wound healing and is particularly good for fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain such as scieatica and post herpetic neuralgia.  FSM has also been used to treat reflex sympathetic dustrophy with some success.

PROLOTHERAPY
Prolotherapy is a treatment for ligament pain and laxity involving the use of medication injected directly into injured ligaments for the purpose of strengthening, tightening, and regrowing them. With prolotherapy, we inject various irritant solutions directly into ligaments and tendons to encourage repair.   Because of chemical mediators that are released as a result of this inflammatory process, cells called Macrophages and Fibroblasts are attracted to the site of injury. Fibroblasts secrete collagen, the strong fibers in the tendons and ligaments.  In addition, new blood vessels are formed, improving  circulation.  This process actually strengthens and rebuilds the connective tissue. Conditions such as chronic joint pain, recurrent sprains, and joint instability can be signs of ligament laxity. In addition, partial tears of ligaments and tendons are treatable with this modality. 

Clinical Nutrition
We provide a variety of services relating to nutritional balance, including individualized supplement recommendations based on laboratory testing and in office evaluation, intravenous nutritional therapy, weight loss, and detoxification. We provide nutritional support for every condition because we treat the person, not just the disease.  We are certified by the American Board of Clinical Nutritionists.


Dermatology
We have a nutritional and holistic approach to dermatology.  Many skin problems are related to food allergies, fatty acid imbalances, or other vitamin or mineral deficiencies. When we address these issues, we treat the cause of the problem, not simply suppress the symptom.   Dermatologic surgery such as removal of warts and moles is done in our office in addition to cosmetic procedures, including sclerotherapy for spider veins,  mesotherapy for shrinking fat deposits, and treating cellulite. Treatment of wrinkles is done with collagen and hyaluronic acid injections, glycolic acid chemical peels, and the mesolift, which is the placement of vitamins and other substances just under the upper layers of the skin.   Mesotherapy can also be used to treat bags under the eyes, double chins, and jowels.  At Tarrytown Functional Medicine, we believe in looking good as well as feeling good.

Weight Loss
Our weight loss program is based on a healthy balanced program of high quality macronutrients (fats, proteins and carbohydrates). Supplements and meal replacements are recommended to deal with insulin resistance. We avoid drugs or supplements that excessively stimulate your body or block important nutrient uptake.  The role of stress and exercise are emphasized in our program in addition to good nutrition. Ear acupuncture is also done in our office for weight loss..

Metabolic Type Testing
Developed by Dr. Harold Kristal, this method enables us to balance the PH of the body by determining which of the four metabolic types you are, sympathetic, parasympathetic, fast or slow oxidizer dominant and making appropriate recommendations. This is important information because a supplement or food which is acidifying to one type can be alkalinizing to another. Balancing the PH is crucial to health because all of the body’s enzyme systems are compromised if PH is too acid or too alkaline.

Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is an exciting new specialty in aesthetic medicine. It is used for sculpting the body by dissolving unwanted fat deposits, thus avoiding a liposuction. Bulging stomachs, saddle bags, love handles, bags under the eyes, jowels, and double chins can all be treated with this method.  Mesotherapy can also be used for touching up unevenness resulting from previous liposuction. Cellulite, wrinkles, and hair loss, and scars can also be treated by this method of injecting vitamins, minerals, homeopathics, and other natural substances under the skin.
